Train fares for over 100km journeys set to rise from 4 May

Staff Correspondent

The fare for travelling on a train for more than 100 kilometres would rise 20-30% from 4 May as the state-owned railway authority has already withdrawn rebate facilities dating back to 1992.

The Bangladesh Railway ended rebates on train fares for over 100km journey recently.

As per the decision, the lowest possible fare on the Dhaka-Cumilla rail route would rise from Tk170 to Tk204. The lowest fare on Dhaka-Chattogram route would go up from Tk285 to Tk342.

Due to the existing rebate facilities, a commuter enjoys a 20% fare rebate on a 101-250km train journey, 25% on a 251-400km journey and 30% on a more than 400km journey.
