Railway authorities advise to purchase tickets from designated apps to avoid fraud
Staff Correspondent
To avoid harassment of passengers and fraud related to ticket collection on the occasion of the upcoming Eid, the railway authorities have advised passengers to purchase tickets using the designated app (Rail Seva) of Bangladesh Railway. It is to be noted that the advance ticket sale for Eid has started from May 13, 2026.
Recently, it has been observed that some unscrupulous people are giving assurances about the sale of train tickets through various social media channels. In fact, they have no ability to collect train tickets. They are basically fraudsters. Many passengers fall into their trap and are harassed and cheated. In many cases, they take money from passengers through bKash, Nagad or mobile banking systems and disconnect the communication, and even close the previously used SIM card.
In fact, a maximum of four tickets can be purchased in a single journey through the designated app from an ID registered with Bangladesh Railway. In this case, it is mandatory to input the names of the co-passengers of the ID holder into the system.
Currently, 100% of train tickets are being sold online on the occasion of Eid. Train tickets are not being sold anywhere other than the designated app (Rail Services) of Bangladesh Railway. If a passenger purchases a ticket from any person, organization or place other than the designated app (Rail Services) of Bangladesh Railway, he will be cheated.
According to the rules of Bangladesh Railway, the person whose ID is used to purchase a ticket must travel with the relevant mobile phone and ID card with a photo. If anyone other than the ID holder and the co-passenger mentioned in the ticket travels, it is a punishable offense.
If a fraudster promises to collect tickets from someone else through any means or tries to sell the purchased ticket using someone else's ID, it has been advised to hand him over to the law enforcement agencies or inform the concerned officer of Bangladesh Railway. There is a provision to take the assistance of Bangladesh Railway Security Force (RNB) and Railway Police (GRP) in this regard. Moreover, complaints can be made by dialing Bangladesh Railway's hotline number 131. The identity of the complainant will be kept confidential in all cases.
