Three members of illegal sand lifting gang arrested with truck in Srimangal

Police arrested three people on charges of illegally extracting sand in Srimangal Upazila of Moulvibazar on Tuesday afternoon.
Srimangal Police Station SI (retd) Alok Bihari along with a team of police officers conducted a drive and arrested them along with a truck full of sand from a paved road in Golgaon area of Sindurkhan Union No. 4 of the upazila.
The arrested are Shahbuddin Mia (24), son of Akkas Mia of Alisharqul area, Anwar Mia (22), son of the deceased Syed Ali Mia, and Akash Mia (19), son of Makhlis Mia.
Police said that the arrested persons had been illegally extracting sand from various government plots and lands in Srimangal Upazila for a long time, resulting in severe damage to the geo-natural environment of the area.
Cases have been filed under relevant sections against those arrested in this incident and the main ringleaders of the Balu gang who are still absconding and sent to jail through the courts.
