Three eminent personalities of Faridpur awarded Humayun Kabir Literary Award

For the first time in Faridpur, three eminent personalities have been awarded Humayun Kabir Award in three categories.

Among them, Dr. Mohammad Ali Khan in research, Tapas Kumar Dutta in literature and Sadia Mahzabin Imam in journalism were awarded this award.

At this time, each of them was presented with a crest of honor and a cheques of fifty thousand taka.

The Humayun Kabir Literary Award 2025 distribution ceremony was organized by the Faridpur Sahitya Parishad on Friday afternoon at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner's Office. Chairman of the Energy Regulatory Commission Jalal Ahmed was present as the chief guest at the event and editor of the Daily Ittefaq Tasmima Hossain was the guest of honour.

All three awardees were present at the event. First, a documentary about the work of these three individuals was shown. Later, the guests handed over the awards to them in turn.

During the speech of the chief guest, Jalal Ahmed highlighted the colourful life of Humayun Kabir. He said, Humayun Kabir was a man of short stature and a great man. He was the only one to have done honors in political science, economics and philosophy from Oxford, which was the first in the subcontinent. He was also a political progressive. He was the Education Minister of India twice. He was also creative, he wrote 47 books. His writings on rivers and women are quite discussed. We try to measure Humayun Kabir with this much. But we do not notice the other things that Humayun Kabir is known for. I thank the Faridpur Sahitya Parishad for bringing this famous man back to life.

At this time, thanking the Faridpur Sahitya Parishad, Editor of Dainik Ittefaq Tasmima Hossain said, 'We do not see the traditional history and some people of our Bengalis in public, in the governance of our state. At that moment, Faridpur Sahitya Parishad will revive what it has done, Bangladesh will stand tall again. So, we will do whatever we can to support good deeds.’

The ceremony was attended by Faridpur Deputy Commissioner Md. Kamrul Hasan Mollah, Police Superintendent Md. Abdul Jalil, eminent educationist and social worker Professor MA Samad, former chairman of Jessore Education Board and editor of Dainik Fatehabad Professor ABM Sattar, President of Faridpur Sahitya Parishad Professor Altaf Hossain, editor Mofiz Imam Milon, member secretary of Faridpur Sahitya O Sansthaki Unnayan Sanstha Md. Hasanuzzaman and literature and culture enthusiasts.

Awardee Dr. Mohammad Ali Khan is a poet, essayist, novelist, author of travelogues and children’s books, and a researcher. His tireless work 'Pictures in Words and Words: Faridpur' has impressed the readership of the greater Faridpur. In addition, his writings depict the independence of Bangladesh, the boundless love for nature and eternal humanity in an impeccable manner, depicting the needle-and-thread paper designs of colors and words. In addition to writing books, he was also involved in the editing of several literary magazines.

Fiction writer Tapas Kumar Dutta's novel Mahaprithibir Bangak Ghashe has wonderfully depicted political texts. Where a nano alien has symbolically taken refuge. A difficult narrative of the current political reality of Bangladesh has emerged in a variety of ways. Along with the novel, there is a collection of his stories. In addition, he is a filmmaker.

Sadia Mahjabin Imam started journalism in 2006. Her career began at CSB News, the country's first 24-hour news television channel. She is currently working as a senior correspondent for Prothom Alo newspaper. His outstanding report on the impact of corruption and climate change on the coast through the country's creative culture. His report reveals the most remote area of the Sundarbans. In 2018, he received the 'Bangladesh-India' Literary Award in Michigan, USA, for his special contribution to Bengali literature.

They expressed their emotions after receiving such an award for the first time in their own district town. After receiving the award, journalist Sadia Mahjabin said, "I am happy to receive the award from my own city. It is a lifelong pride for me to receive the award among so many relatives compared to other awards."

Incidentally, Humayun Kabir was born on February 22, 1906, in the village of Komarpur in Faridpur Sadar. He was a unique artist, writer, educationist, philosopher and politician of Faridpur. In 1939, he jointly established the Faridpur Sahitya Parishad with the son of the landlord Abd Allah Zahiruddin Lalmia. At the invitation of this literary council, poet Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay and rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam came to Faridpur to attend the literary meeting.

Earlier, the guests were congratulated with flowers by various organizations including Faridpur Press Club and Faridpur Muslim Mission College.
