State Minister for Environment opens tree plantation drive in St. Martin’s

State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Sheikh Faridul Islam inaugurated the "Tree Plantation Program-2026" under the "Green Bangladesh" project on the coral island of St. Martin's on Saturday.
The information was disclosed on Saturday evening by Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan.
Organized under the overall supervision of the Bangladesh Coast Guard and in collaboration with Enroute Foundation and World Vision Bangladesh, the initiative runs under the slogan "Plant trees to adorn the country, Bangladesh first" to support the government's grand plan to plant 25 crore saplings nationwide over the next five years to preserve forests, wildlife, environment, and biodiversity.
Under the program, approximately 20,000 saplings of various species will be planted across St. Martin's Island to maintain ecological balance, prevent soil erosion, preserve natural habitats, and combat the adverse impacts of climate change.
Following the tree plantation drive, the State Minister participated in a "Plastic Free Beach Campaign" on the island, which saw enthusiastic participation from local residents aimed at environmental conservation and cleanliness.
