The Annual General Meeting and re-union of Dhaka University Department of Soil, Water and Environment Alumni Association 'EDAFS' was held at the University Swimming Pool on Saturday.

University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal attended the function as the chief guest and inaugurated various programs throughout the day.

In the opening ceremony, president of Edafs, Prof. Dr. Md. Didar-ul Alam, chairman of the department, Professor Dr. Md. Harunor Rashid Khan and General Secretary of the organization and Abul Fazal Mir along with alumni were present.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal paid deep respect to the immortal memory of the language martyrs including Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the 1st arrested in the language movement of 1952, the greatest Bengali father of the nation, and said, today we have got an independent sovereign country due to the continuation of the movement and struggle led by Bangabandhu. Highlighting the outstanding contribution of Bangabandhu's daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in celebrating the International Mother Language Day, he said that due to this achievement, people of all languages of the world have got the right to speak their mother tongue.

The Vice-Chancellor also said that the alumni of Centenary Dhaka University should play an active role in the cooperation and overall development of students by increasing their involvement with the university. The Vice-Chancellor called upon the alumni to work from their respective positions by creating a roadmap to advance the university in all fields including education and research.
