A long-neglected 214-meter mud road stretching from the Purba Para Mosque to the Boro Mosque in Thakurbhog village, under Paschim Birgaon union of Shantiganj upazila, is finally being paved.

Local BNP and its affiliate organization leaders formally inaugurated the construction work on Wednesday afternoon, bringing immense relief to thousands of local residents.

For nearly 50 years, villagers had to endure severe hardships while using the dilapidated dirt track. The suffering reached its peak during the monsoon season, particularly for school-going students, elderly citizens, pregnant women, emergency patients, and children commuting to the local mosque and religious learning centers (maktabs).

According to the Shantiganj Upazila Engineering Department, the 214-meter paving project has been approved for the 2025-2026 fiscal year with an allocation of Tk 8.50 lakh from the development fund of Sunamganj-3 lawmaker M. Koysor Ahmed. Additionally, another separate project worth Tk 6 lakh has been sanctioned to pave a second dirt road connecting the village primary school to the Boro Mosque.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Paschim Birgaon Union BNP Convener Habib Ullah Jaigirdar, Senior Joint Convener Motiur Rahman Jaigirdar, Senior Member Arjan Khan, BNP leader Elap Uddin Bhuiyan, and Sylhet City Youth Dal Joint Secretary Shihab Khan, alongside several other local front-ranking political activists and village elders. The residents of Thakurbhog village expressed their heartfelt gratitude to MP M. Koysor Ahmed for allocating the required funds.

Confirming the development, Shantiganj Upazila Engineer Md. Sajedul Islam stated that the construction work is actively moving forward. He assured that his department is maintaining regular and strict field-level supervision to ensure the highest quality of construction materials and execution.

Local residents expressed optimism that the timely completion of the road will make their daily commute permanently safe and comfortable.
