Shamim Osman, 89 others sued with two attempted murder cases in N'ganj

Two more cases have been filed against 89 people, including former member of parliament Shamim Osman, in the incident of two people getting injured in the anti-discrimination student movement in Narayanganj district. Another 500 leaders and workers of Awami League and its affiliated organizations have been accused in two separate cases.

On Wednesday night, two victims named Abdur Rashid and Jasim Khan filed two separate case at Siddhirganj Model Police Station. They are residents of Siddhirganj Thana area of Sadar Upazila. Siddhirganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Al Mamun confirmed the case on Thursday (October 31). He said that 41 people including Shamim Osman have been named in Abdur Rashid's case and 48 people have been named in Jasim Khan's case.

A total of 30 cases, including 22 murders, have been filed in various police stations of Narayanganj district in connection with the casualties surrounding the anti-discrimination student movement. Among them, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been accused in 18 cases including 17 murders.

Among the other accused in the two new cases are Shamim Osman's son Ayan Osman, nephew Ajmeri Osman, Narayanganj Metropolitan Awami League Joint Secretary Shah Nizam, Siddhirganj Thana Awami League President Mojibur Rahman, General Secretary Haji Yachin Miah, Thana Jubo League convener Motiur Rahman and others.

Plaintiff Abdur Rashid in the statement of the case said that during the anti-discrimination student movement on July 21, the plaintiff Abdur Rashid and others were holding a peaceful program against the Awami League government in the Shimrail area of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway. At that time, under the orders of Shamim Osman, their party terrorists started attacking the student crowd including the plaintiff.

After creating panic by exploding a few cocktails, the students opened fire indiscriminately to kill the crowd. In this incident, some students and innocent crowd were shot. At one stage, Rashid, the plaintiff in the case, was shot in the right hand and collapsed. Later he was rescued and taken to hospital.

Jasim Khan, the plaintiff in another case, stated in his statement that on the afternoon of July 20, in front of Shimrail Bhumipalli in Siddhirganj, the anti-discrimination students and the people, including the plaintiff Jasim, were holding a peaceful program against the Awami League government. At that time, the accused made a surprise attack on the students with firearms, explosive cocktails, indigenous weapons.

The accused fired indiscriminately to kill the students. Accused Shamim Osman and Shah Nizam along with others fired at the plaintiff along with other agitators with intent to kill. At that time, while running away, the plaintiff received a bullet in his left hand. He later recovered after receiving treatment at a hospital in the capital.
