National Youth Day was celebrated in Baraigram Upazila of Natore. The day featured rallies, discussion meetings, youth loan cheques, training certificates and distribution of saplings. Upazila Executive Officer Laila Jannatul Ferdous presided over the discussion meeting held at Upazila Auditorium on Friday and Upazila Youth Development Officer Md. Rafiqul Islam moderated it.

Assistant Commissioner (Lands) Md. Ashraful Islam, Upazila Social Service Officer Md. Rezaul Karim, Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Abdul Halim, Dwarikhair Youth Association President Md. Jewel Rana and others spoke at the meeting.

Officials of various departments, youth association members and local dignitaries were present on the occasion.

At the end of the meeting, loan cheaue of Tk 9.80 thousand, training certificates and saplings were distributed among 14 youth members.

BNP worker killed in Baraigram bus accident

A local BNP activist named Shafiqul Islam (42) was killed in a bus accident in Baraigram upazila of Natore on Thursday.

He is the son of late Mr. Sarkar of Ahmedpur village of upazila. He is a former local Awami League MP Dr. Siddiqur Rahman was the plaintiff in the house vandalism case filed against Patwari.

Residents said that he met with an accident while crossing the Natore-Dhaka highway at Ahmedpur Bazar of Shafikul Islam Upazila around 8:00 pm on Thursday.

A Hanif Paribahan bus going from Natore to Dhaka ran over him. He died on the spot. On receiving the news, the family members recovered the body and took it home. Excited by the incident, the local people blocked the road for some time. Later, the police of Jhalmalia Highway police station went and brought the situation under control and seized the killer bus. Jhalmalia Highway Police Station OC Mahabubur Rahman said that the killer truck has been seized. A case is pending in this regard.
