Mujibur Rahman Patwary 

 Eminent journalist Rahman Jahangir, former Editorial Consultant of The Financial Express and former Joint News Editor of The Daily Star, spent over four decades shaping Bangladeshi media through his distinguished career in English journalism.

Born on July 7, 1950, at Masunda Miajee Bari under Naayergaon Uttar Union in Matlab Dakshin Upazila of Chandpur, Rahman Jahangir earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Economics from the University of Dhaka.

He began his journalism career as a Senior Sub-Editor at the now-defunct English daily The Bangladesh Observer. Over his long career, he served as the founding News Editor of The Daily Independent, Joint News Editor of The Daily Star, and Editorial Consultant at The Financial Express, alongside holding top newsroom positions at News Network and other media organizations.

Rahman Jahangir underwent advanced journalistic training across Bangladesh, Germany, and the United States, earning higher diplomas in journalism. Throughout his career, he served as Bangladesh correspondent for numerous prestigious international publications, including Anandabazar Patrika, The Independent (Mumbai), The Indian Post, The Telegraph, Saudi Gazette, Arab News, Daily Times (UAE), Gulf Times (Qatar), and the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP). He also served as a regular English news commentator for Bangladesh Betar for 35 years.

A permanent member of the National Press Club, Rahman Jahangir traveled widely for journalism, visiting the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, India, and Pakistan.

The veteran journalist passed away at a hospital in Dhaka on March 26, 2018, at the age of 69. He was laid to rest at his family graveyard in Masunda village in Matlab Dakshin Upazila of Chandpur.
