Journalists have formed a human chain and staged a protest in Sonargaon, Narayanganj, demanding the withdrawal of the false case filed against Mahbbul Islam Sumon, the Sonargaon correspondent of the Daily Sangbad.

The human chain program organized by all journalists of Sonargaon was observed on Saturday morning at the Mograpara intersection area.

The human chain meeting, moderated by journalist Imran Hossain, was addressed by journalists Abdus Sattar Prodhan, Hasan Mahmud Ripon, Abu Bakar Siddique, Shahadat Hossain Ratan, Rabiul Hossain, Farid Hossain, Mashiur Rahman, Kamruzzaman Rana, General Secretary of the Children and Youth Organization Khelaghar Sonargaon Upazila Branch Lion Raza Rahman, Anwar Hossain, and others.

After the human chain, a protest march was taken out. Leaders of various journalist organizations, social and environmental organizations, including Sonargaon Press Club, Sonargaon Reporters Club, Sonargaon Thana Press Club, were present.

It is learned that the road from Jainpur to Pirojpur Union Parishad office was constructed under the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) for light vehicle traffic. Due to the heavy vehicles of Meghna Group of Industries plying on this road, erosion and cracks have been created at various places on the road. As a result, they complained that despite an application to the upazila administration last May, no effective action was taken.

On August 20, a truck carrying cement was stopped by locals while it was going to the company. At that time, a group of 10-12 people including Abul Kalam Sopan, Naeem, Liton and others, led by the company's contractor Abu Sayeed, attacked the villagers with sticks and injured 7 people. Separate complaints were filed by the company and the villagers in this incident. Although the company's complaint was registered as a case, it did not take the villagers' complaint into consideration. However, the name of journalist Mahbubul Islam was implicated in the case.

The speakers at the human chain program said that a case was filed against journalist Sumon for protesting injustice. In exchange for a bribe from the police.

Sonargaon Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Anwar Hossain said, "Police were sent to the scene after receiving information about the clash. A case has been registered after receiving evidence during the investigation. However, the matter of the company receiving benefits is not true."
