tate Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury today said that the government is taking short-, medium- and long-term plans to give a fresh impetus to the country's film industry.

"The Prime Minister has directed for formulating a comprehensive plan for the development of the film industry. Within the stipulated timeframe, a coordinated plan outlining what needs to be done for development of the film industry, implementation strategies and necessary government support will be prepared and presented," he said.

The state minister made the remarks while addressing a programme at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) here this afternoon, marking the 'Film Directors Day 2026'.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Andaleeve Rahman addressed the function as the chief guest while Prime Minister's Adviser on Information and Broadcasting Zahed Ur Rahman also spoke at the event.

Yasser said the government is focusing not only on the development of BFDC but also on the overall development of the film industry.

"Building on the legacy of talented directors, producers, actors and actresses who made outstanding contributions to Bangladeshi cinema in the past, effective initiatives will be taken to further improve the quality and capacity of the film industry," he said.

The state minister said the government is working on a plan under which short-, medium- and long-term initiatives will be undertaken to make various institutions and offices related to the film industry more effective.

"BFDC is also an important part of this plan," he added.

Addressing the eminent personalities of the film industry, Yasser said experienced and talented people associated with the industry would lead the way in its development.

"The government will remain beside them and provide necessary support," he said.

Noting that he joined the function from his interest to meet people from the film industry, the state minister said, "I have visited BFDC in the past, and I will continue to work with and stand beside the people of the film industry in the future."

Earlier, the 'Film Directors Day' event was formally inaugurated by releasing pigeons, a symbol of peace.

Bangladesh Film Directors' Association President Shaheen Sumon delivered the welcome address.

Prominent media personality Faridur Reza Sagar, renowned singer Sabina Yasmin, noted film personality and freedom fighter Masud Parvez, renowned film director AJ Mintu, producer and actor Kazi Hayat, film personality and freedom fighter Delwar Jahan Jhantu, film director Dr Matin Rahman and Mashiuddin Shaker and several others were honoured at the programme for their contributions to the film and cultural sectors.

At the request of the guests and audience, Sabina Yasmin performed songs at the programme.

BFDC Managing Director Masuma Rahman Tani, Bangladesh Film Directors' Association Secretary General Shahin Kabir Tutul and eminent personalities, directors, producers, artistes, technicians and journalists from the film industry were also present.
