Md Sohag Khan, Member Secretary of Sonakata Union Jubo Dal of the same upazila held a press conference against upazila BNP Convener Md Shahidul Haque for allegedly beating and torturing him in various ways in Taltali upazila of Barguna.

The victim Sohag Khan, his family and local leaders held a press conference on Monday at around 8:30 pm in the hall room of the Barguna Press Club. At that time, they told various complaints to the journalists through a press conference.

Speaking at the press conference, Sohag Khan said, "My father Md. Harun Khan runs a food hotel business in the market called Kabiraj Para of Taltali Upazila. Convener of Taltali Upazila BNP, Md. Shahidul Haque, through his father-in-law, Md. Masud Peda, demanded a contribution of Tk 1 lakh from my father. When I refused to pay this money, Shahidul Haque and his son Shahriar Naeem, brother Zahidul Haque Sohag, Choto Bhai Choto, Masud Pada, Alamgir Meera and 20 to 25 others attacked my father's food shop and beat him up. When my mother prevented my father from being beaten, he was also beaten.

Besides, when I arrived at the spot after receiving the news, the accused beat me and two others named Farooq Molla and Abdul Haque who were with me and looted the various goods in the shop. Later, my mother and father were rescued and admitted to Barguna Sadar Hospital for treatment, he said.

Convenor of Taltali Upazila BNP Md. Shahidul Haque denied the allegations and said, "My mother-in-law is a member of UP." Yesterday evening (November 17) Sohag, Harunmolla and Farooq Molla along with some others attacked my father-in-law and mother-in-law with rods in front of everyone. After receiving the information, I asked Taltali police to take action. And when I went to the spot, the crowd tried to stop them and the police controlled it. We did nothing to them. They attack and instead accuse us. The allegations against us are completely false and baseless.

In this regard, Taltali OC Md. Abul Kalam said that there was an attack between two groups. However, Taltali police station has not filed any complaint so far. Legal action will be taken if complaints are received.
