Pirojpur DC announces strict action  to  free canals from encroachment

Nesarabad (Pirojpur) Correspondent

Pirojpur Deputy Commissioner Md. Abu Sayeed has announced strict steps to clear the government canal in Nesarabad, Pirojpur from illegal encroachment. At the same time, he stressed the importance of keeping the canal clean, normalizing water flow and eliminating unplanned drainage systems to prevent dengue.

The Deputy Commissioner made these remarks as the chief guest while inaugurating a canal cleaning drive from Tentultala in Ward No. 1 of the municipality to Shaheed Smriti Degree College on Thursday noon, initiated by the Swarupkathi Municipality.

The Deputy Commissioner said that those who have built illegal structures by encroaching on the municipal government canal will be evicted. The administration will take necessary measures to restore the normal flow of water in the canal.

He said that the spread of dengue in Pirojpur district is at an alarming level. Unplanned drainage system, encroachment on government canals to obstruct water flow, and dumping of garbage everywhere are causing waterlogging. Mosquito breeding is also increasing in these places. The Deputy Commissioner said that once the canals of the municipality where water used to flow naturally, people used to swim and boats and trawlers used to ply, have been encroached upon and clogged with garbage over time. As a result, the flow of water is stopped, causing environmental pollution, and the spread of mosquitoes is also increasing.

He said that the Tetultala canal is also gradually being encroached upon. Therefore, as part of dengue prevention, a canal cleaning campaign has been started by the Swarupkathi Municipality.

The event, chaired by Nesarabad  UNO and Swarupkathi Municipality Administrator Md. Abu Raihan, was also addressed by Nesarabad Upazila BNP's former senior joint convener Md. Nasir Uddin Talukder, Swarupkathi Municipality BNP's general secretary Md. Mainul Hasan, Nesarabad Police Station OC  Md. Mehedi Hasan, Swarupkathi Municipality BNP's former joint convener and teacher Md. Ohiduzzaman Manik, and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Nesarabad Upazila branch Ameer Abul Kalam Azad.
