Dhaka University Mass Communication and Journalism Department's student recruitment and promotion ceremony was held on Friday at TSC auditorium.

University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Maksyd Kamal was present as the chief guest on the occasion.

Departmental Chairman Prof. Dr. Presided over by Abul Mansoor Ahmed, Member of Parliament, film actor and former student of the department Ferdous Ahmed and Acting Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences Professor Rasheda Irshad Nasir were present as special guests. Besides, student advisor Mohammad Saiful Alam Chowdhury spoke in the event among others.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Maqsud Kamal termed Dhaka University as an excellent institution for knowledge practice and research and said that students should develop as international standard skilled human resources through knowledge practice and taking advantage of all facilities in the open and democratic environment here.

He mentioned that new initiatives have been taken to conduct education and research programs of Dhaka University in accordance with the standards of universities in developed countries.

The Vice-Chancellor called on the media workers and related parties to play a proper role in the development of the country by providing accurate information, reporting news with transparency, dedication and professionalism.

Member of Parliament Ferdous Ahmed said that journalists play an important role in taking the country and society to a different level with knowledge, conscience and intelligence.

He expressed hope that the students of Dhaka University Department of Mass Communication and Journalism will engage in the work of building the nation by preventing yellow journalism and providing accurate news.

Prizes were distributed among the winners of various competitions organized on the occasion of the cultural week of the department. A cultural program was performed in the 2nd phase of the programme.
