Staff Correspondent
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator, freedom fighter Abdus Salam, said that Dhaka residents must consider Dhaka as their own. Otherwise, there will be no sympathy for this city. He said, if I am elected mayor, I hope to do more for the people of Dhaka. If you stand by me in this matter, I will also stand by you.
The administrator said this while exchanging views with the newly elected committee leaders of the Greater Dhaka Journalist Forum at Nagar Bhaban on Monday afternoon.
The organization's president Nuruddin Ahmed, general secretary Mohammad Momin Hossain, vice-president ABM Rafiqur Rahman, vice-president Monirul Islam, joint secretary Anjan Rahman, culture and publication secretary Sumon Islam, office secretary Atiqul Islam, public welfare secretary Nurunnabi Robi, members Galman Shafi, Lutfar Rahman, Delwar Hossain Badal, and Kusher Yasir spoke at the event.
Abdus Salam said, "The City Corporation will stand by you in any Dhaka-based initiative."
The administrator said, "We want the City Corporation to be stronger. To be more involved with the people. The Dhaka City Corporation is not as involved with the people as it should be."
The administrator said, "We are working to make Dhaka a modern, clean and livable city. We expect your constructive suggestions and cooperation in implementing this master plan. When citizen problems arise through your writings, it becomes easier for us to take quick administrative action. Therefore, we consider the media as one of the main partners in development."
He said, "As you know, our beloved Dhaka, which started its journey as the capital of Subah Bengal in 1610, has entered its 416th year today. To celebrate this long journey of tradition and glory, Dhaka South City Corporation has organized a special festival titled "Hridoye Dhaka". We hope that the current civic problems and future challenges of this 416-year-old city will be objectively brought to light in your writings."
Nuruddin Ahmed, president of Greater Dhaka Journalists Forum, said, "We applaud the initiative of Dhaka South City Corporation to organize the 'Hridoye Dhaka' festival on the occasion of Dhaka's 416th anniversary. He said, our organization will stand by the City Corporation in any Dhaka-based activities."
General Secretary Mohammad Momin Hossain said, "We seek your cooperation in protecting the rights of journalists in Dhaka and maintaining an environment of objective journalism. At the same time, we request you to ensure the free flow of information in any developmental or public welfare-oriented work of Nagar Bhaban."
He said, "As an efficient administrator, I hope that under your leadership, Dhaka South City Corporation will set a unique example in citizen service."
