Man sentenced to one month in prison for carrying ganja in Kalapara

A mobile court has sentenced a person named Gazi Sayem Mehedi (32) to imprisonment for the crime of transporting ganja in the Hajipur Toll Plaza area of Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali.
He was arrested from the toll plaza area around 10 pm on Saturday in collaboration with Mahipur police. Later, Executive Magistrate of the Mobile Court Md. Yasin Sadek sentenced him to 1 month's rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Tk 500 under Section 42(1) of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018, failing which he will be sentenced to 7 days' rigorous imprisonment. Gazi Sayem Mehedi is a resident of Tiakhali Union of Kalapara Upazila.
Mahipur Police Station said that it is initially believed that the arrested person has been involved in drug trafficking for a long time.
