
Maldives football star Baka passes away

Maldives football star and former national midfielder Mohamed Arif Baka passed away on Tuesday evening while undergoing treatment at a local hospital in Male.
A local source informed the Daily Sun that he was admitted to the hospital on Monday night as his health deteriorated three days after arriving from Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
Baka went to perform Hajj with a delegation who travelled on the invitation of Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
The doctors informed that the footballer contracted a viral disease during his visit. He had also been facing a respiratory infection.
The 38-year-old midfielder Baka played for Maldivian outfits – VB Addu FC, Maziya SRC, New Radiant SC, Club Eagles, Club Valencia, Club Green Streets, United Victory and Burmese club Kanbawza FC.
He was also a member of Maldives’ SAFF Championship-winning squads in 2008 and 2018.
Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu, Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef and the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) expressed their profound shock at his death and condoled his bereaved family.
