The relentless efforts of the Local Government Engineering Department in Magura have unlocked a new horizon of economic development in the southwestern region of the country.
Under the leadership of Executive Engineer A.N. Wahiduzzaman, the government and the agency are rapidly implementing the 'WECARE Phase-1' Project to accelerate regional economic growth, improve rural connectivity, boost agricultural production, and expand market management.
As part of this development initiative, work is progressing swiftly on upgrading approximately 70 kilometers of roads and 7 growth centers across four upazilas of Magura district, with nearly 70 percent of the project already completed.
Under Package CW-6, contractor firm Dianco Ltd. is executing 22.638 km of road developments—including the Sreepur-Alaipur road, Sreepur-Langalbad road, and Sreepur-Chachilapur GC road—at a cost of Tk 46.07 crore, with completion targeted by November.
Meanwhile, Package CW-7 involves 19.34 km of roadway improvements across various routes, including the Aiypur-Kamarpara road, Ichakhada-Hajipur Union Parishad road, Dhalahara Bazar-Alookdia road, and Buzrakshrikundi-Alookdia road. Implemented by Shamim Enterprise Ltd. and Md. Mizanur Rahman JV with an allocation of Tk 65.03 crore, these works are scheduled for completion by September.
Package CW-8 encompasses roughly 31.83 km of road networks—including the Binodpur College to Nabaganga River road, Binodpur-Narayanpur road, and Talibaria to Binodpur road—undertaken by Rana Building Pvt. Ltd. and Md. Mizanur Rahman at a cost of Tk 67.13 crore, targeting completion by November. Most roads under these packages have already received carpeting, increasing road widths and ensuring safer, smoother vehicular movement.
Senior Assistant Engineer Abdullah Al Kabir noted that the project has generated significant local employment during its implementation phase. Furthermore, modernization works are underway in 6 out of the 7 designated markets, which will feature internal RCC roads to boost commercial investments and local small businesses.
Executive Engineer A.N. Wahiduzzaman stated that the initiative also features a two-year Labour Contracting Society program employing 132 disadvantaged women supervised by 7 staff members for market and road maintenance.
Once fully completed within the next month or two, the project is expected to streamline agricultural product marketing, eliminate middlemen exploitation, ensure fair prices for farmers, and completely transform the socio-economic landscape of the region.
