Koyra flooded due to impact of cyclone Remal

Due to the impact of cyclone Remal, water is overflowing the embankment at 10 points of coastal Koyra in Khulna district. Besides, as the embankments have turned become vulnerable at 9 points though repair work is being done with soil and geo bags on an urgent basis.
On Sunday to Monday, if the tidal water in the river rises compared to normal in the afternoon, Golkhali of South Bedkashi Union of Koyra Upazila (adjacent to Coast Guard Office), Matia Bhanga, Chhota Angtihara, Chora Mukha, Boro Angtihara, Khasitana, Pabna of Maharajpur Union, Jorsing, Hamkhura of Koyra Sadar, Gara, Madinabad Launchghat area, the dam overflowed and water entered the locality. Later, under the supervision of the upazila administration, the common people participated in the repair of the dam throughout the day.
Water Development Board sources said, water flowed 4-5 feet above the danger level in the rivers of Khulna before Remal hit the coast. The danger level of water flow in Pasur River is 2.45 meters. Today it has increased to 2.17 meters. Khulna's largest river Sibsa has a normal water flow of 1.76. Its danger limit is 1.37 meters. Today there is a flow of 2.94 meters.
The danger limit of Kapotaksha river is 1.95 meters, today it has crossed the danger limit to 2.47 meters. The danger limit of Shakbaria river is 2.17 meters, the tide has crossed the danger limit today and the tide has increased by 2.39 meters. As a result, there is a danger of flooding in many areas here.
Koyra Upazila Nirbahi Officer BM Tariq Uz-Zaman said that due to the river bed being filled, when the tidal water rises a little, the water overflows the embankment and enters the locality. The embankment is being raised with soil and geo bags to prevent water from entering over the embankment.
