Mirzaganj (Patuakhali) Correspondent 

A human chain program was held in Mirzaganj of Patuakhali district protesting the false case filed by Meghna Group’s chairman Mostafa Kamal against the Editor and Publisher of the Bengali  daily Amar Desh Mahmudur Rahman, along with 4 other journalists on Wednesday. The human chain was held  in front of the New Market area on the Bakerganj-Mirzaganj-Barguna highway, organized by the Amar Desh Readers’ Forum of the upazila.Local journalists, teachers, and people from various professions participated in the human chain.Speakers at the event included:Founder president of Mirzaganj Press Club and senior journalist, advocate Md. Mojibur Rahman Munshi, Mirzaganj correspondent of Daily Prothom Alo Md. Zakir Hossain, Jugantor’s upazila correspondent Md. Rafiqul Islam Saddam, Mirzaganj upazila correspondent of Amar Desh Md. Shamsul Haque, Country Today’s upazila correspondent Md. Ziaur Rahman, former UP member Md. Abdus Sattar Hawlader, lecturer of Dumki Aziz Ahmed College Rezaul Karim, assistant teachers Abdus Salam, Abul Kashem, and former president of Madhabkhali Union Chhatra Dal Md. Mahiuddin Molla, among others.

Speakers at the human chain said,Mahmudur Rahman is a straightforward editor. During the past fascist Awami League government, 136 cases were filed against him in different courts across the country. When he went to appear in court in Kushtia, leaders and activists of Jubo League and Chhatra League carried out inhumane torture on him.

The same fascist collaborator, Meghna Group’s chairman Mostafa Kamal, showed the audacity to file a case against editor Mahmudur Rahman because Amar Desh newspaper published various corruption reports about him. The speakers demanded immediate withdrawal of the case.The human chain was presided over by Md. Arifur Rahman Babu, General Secretary of the Amar Desh Readers’ Forum, Mirzaganj Upazila branch.
