
Jubo Dal activist held with weapons, bombs in Munshiganj

A Jubo Dal activist named Babu Miji (36) was arrested by police during an attempted hijacking of an auto-rickshaw on the Munshiganj-Munsirhat road, near the slope of the newly constructed bridge at Panchorghoria Kandi in Munshiganj Sadar Thana on Tuesday.
During the arrest, police recovered one sharp knife, four handmade bombs, and two mobile phones from Babu Miji. Following the incident, a case was filed at the Sadar Police Station on Tuesday morning, and the accused was sent to jail via court.
According to local sources, the arrested Babu Miji is a member of the Sadar Upazila Jubo Dal and the son of Monir Miji, acting president of the Char Kawar Union BNP.
Munshiganj Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Firoz Kabir stated that around 1 AM on Monday night, police set up a temporary checkpoint near the new bridge in the Panchorghoria Kandi area of the Munshiganj-Munsirhat road. At that time, the accused Babu Miji, along with two accomplices, was attempting to hijack an auto-rickshaw. As the driver screamed for help, the police rushed to the scene and arrested Babu Miji. Upon searching him, police recovered a sharp knife, four handmade bombs, and two mobile phones.
He further stated that during the operation, two of Babu Miji’s unidentified accomplices managed to escape by evading the police. Efforts are underway to arrest them.
Munshiganj Sadar Thana OC Saiful Alam said, a case has been filed against Babu Miji and his accomplices under charges of possession of bombs and sharp weapons. Later, the arrested accused was sent to jail through the court in the afternoon.
