Munshiganj (South) Correspondent 

A defamation case has been filed in Sreenagar  Munshiganj, against the former chairperson of the governing body of Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose Institution and College, and wife of former MP of Munshiganj-1 constituency, Mahi B Chowdhury, along with 10 others. The case was filed by the institution's principal, Farhad Aziz.

On April 16 of this year, Principal Farhad Aziz filed a defamation case worth Tk 11.5 million at Munshiganj Judge Court by Adv  Badal Krishna Poddar. 

He mentioned that this is the first defamation case filed at the Munshiganj court. The accused include Ashfa Haque Lopas, wife of the former MP and ex-president of the institution’s governing body, and 10 others: Noman Khan Navin, Abdur Rauf, Sakhawat Hossain Bilash, Kamal Chakraborty, Kamruzzaman Khan Kanchan, Abu Taleb Sobhan, Monindra Nath Bala, Monir Hossain, Hosne Ara Begum, and Fazle Sobhan.

According to the case details, while serving as president of the governing body, Ashfa Haque Lopas accused Principal Farhad Aziz of embezzling BDT 2,125,959 during the 10th meeting held on March 16, 2023. He was temporarily suspended, and later, on June 21, 2023, during the 15th meeting, his permanent suspension was recommended and a letter was sent to the education board for approval.

Farhad Aziz said , based on orders from the education board and mediation by committee members, he was reinstated on July 15. However, on August 5, following the fall of the previous government, members of the committee brought hooligans, vandalized his personal vehicle on September 3, and forcibly brought him to the institution. He was again harassed by goons and forced to sign a resignation letter.

The acting principal of the institution, Rehana Nasrin said, she was not aware of the defamation case
