Journalist threatened by lessee for asking for comments, GD filed in Mirzaganj

Shahjahan (60), the lessee of the Pairakunja Ferry in Mirjaganj, Patuakhali, has allegedly abused and threatened to beat up a local journalist when he asked for comments about the illegal passage of excess freight trucks.
In this incident, the victim journalist Ziaur Rahman (40) filed a general diary (GD No. 916) at Mirjaganj police station on Monday . He is working as the Mirjaganj Correspondent of the national English daily The Country Today.
According to GD , on January 26, at around 9:15 pm, journalist Ziaur Rahman called the ferry lessor Shahjahan's mobile phone from his mobile phone and asked if he could illegally cross the ferry with an overloaded truck late at night. The lessor got angry and abused the journalist in foul language. When he protested, he threatened to take him (the journalist) out of the area and beat him up.
Mirzaganj Police Station OC Mohammad Shamim Ahmed said that legal action will be taken after investigation.
