Husband gets life for killing wife in Rangpur

A court in Badarganj upazila of Rangpur has sentenced a husband named Osman Gani (38) to life imprisonment for killing his wife. At the same time, the court has sentenced him to 6 months of non-commissioned imprisonment for non-payment of a fine of Taka 10,000.
Judge Fazle Khoda Mohammad Nazir of the Rangpur Senior District and Sessions Judge's Court announced this verdict on Tuesday.
The accused was absent from the court at that time. The accused Osman Gani is the son of Shahidul Haque of Mostafapur Barbigha village in Badarganj upazila of the district. A case was filed against him in 2015 for killing his wife Manjuara Khatun.
According to the case sources, Osman Gani, son of Shahidul Haque of Mostafapur Barbigha village in Badarganj upazila of the district, was married to Manjuara Khatun, daughter of Amjad Hossain. After marriage, they often quarreled due to poverty and hardship.
Accused Osman Gani killed his wife Manjuara Khatun on the night of September 24, 2015. In this incident, the deceased's father Amjad Hossain filed a murder case with Badarganj Police Station as the plaintiff. The court gave the verdict on Tuesday after taking the testimonies of 19 witnesses.
Accused Osman Gani is absconding. Public Prosecutor (PP) Mohammad Aftab Uddin for the state and State Defense Lawyer Sultan Ahmed Shaheen for the accused conducted the case.
