Jatiya Party (JaPa) has announced that it would stay in the race during the national elections slated for 7 January.
JaPa general secretary Mujibul Haque Chunnu came up with the decision while talking to the journalists on Sunday at the party chairman's Banani office in the afternoon.
He also reaffirmed that the Jatiya Party would contest in 283 seats as they decided earlier.
Chunnu said, “Not under any alliance, the Jatiya Party will participate in the election under its own symbol.”
“The decision to participate in the elections is not a matter of compromise with the government. This is a party decision,” he said.
Meanwhile, JaPa Chairman GM Quader on Sunday withdrew his nomination from the Dhaka-17 constituency.
JaPa office secretary MA Razzak Khan submitted the withdrawal letter to Returning Officer Sabirul Islam in the afternoon.
Razzak said that GM Quader withdrew his candidacy as per party decision.
Quader is also the Jatiya Party nominee from Rangpur-3.
Today is the last day to withdraw nominations in the 12th general elections.
