
Increasing export-import facilities aims at : Container ships between Mongla-Chottogram Sea Ports from May

Plying of container ships between Mongla-Chttogram sea route will begin from the month of May -2025 in order to minimise the export cost and maintain the internal sea routes perfectly.
With a view to increasing the export-import facilities of goods and hastnning the economy of Khulna (south-western) region this effort was undertaken by the concerned authorities.
The matter was disclosed to the newsmen by Mokruzzaman, Assistant Director of Public Relations Department of Mongla Port Authorities recently and told, in this connection container ships already plyed on this route (between Mongla-Chttogram).
The authorised persons disclosed, as many as 100 container ships (carrying containers) already plyed between these two Sea Ports in the month of last February on trail basis.After the successful operation the concerned authorities decided to start the regular plying of container ships from the month of May ceremonially. The container ships after loading with fish, frozen goods and various kinds of jute products from Mongla Port will go to Chottogram Port where from those goods will be exported to the different countries. Trashipment of container ships directly from Mongla Port is less costly.But it is not possible for want of containers ships at Mongla Port regulaly. So, both the cost and time may be increased to some extent.Rear Admiral Shaheen Rahman, Chairman of Mongla Port Authorities told, now the viability of the Port increased to a great extent and it is very hopefull.
The infrastructures of the Port are well developed and side by side, the capacity of the port was also increased. The Chairman added, if the ongoing project of the port are completed within the schedulled time the economy of the localities (south-western region) will be more developed.
The Chaiman further added, the export- importers now prefer to use Mongla Port after the opening of the Padma Bridge for traffic and it (port) was linked with railways and after the installation of the most modern and new equipments at the port and consequently, it takes less time to load and unload of goods from the ships and vise vera. As a result, the arrivals of both native and foreign commercial ships at the port are on the increase. The Port Chairman further added, the importance of the Port will be increased furthet if the ongoing extensive development projects of the Port are copleted in time and on the other hand, with the development of the infrastructures of the port and the portyards are also being developed. As a result, the arrival of commercial ships at the port was incread to a great extemnt. The Chairman hoped, the plying of container ships between Mongla-Chottogram sea route will be ushered a new era in the history of Mongla, the 2 nd Sea Port of the country and at the same time it will
play an important role in the development of the economy of the country.

Sayed Zahid Hossain, President of Mongla Port birth and Ship-operators’ Association told The Country Today , just with the starting of plying of the container ships between Mongla and Chottogram Ports both the export cost and time will be minimised. He added, though Mongla Sea Port are facing from various untowards challenges it has now become a profitable Port.
