Why should reform be mandatory for the interim government

Sadikur Sadik

A deadly month in August 2024 will be remembered for the martyrs and the step-down of the Fascist Sheikh Hasina government. After she fled, we gained the independence expected by the students and the people of Bangladesh. The former Awami Government has destroyed almost all the sectors by abusing power. All government officials should be neutral and unbiased in political issues, but they have become politicized and serve the purpose of special persons rather than the country's people. All the constitutional commissions, autonomous institutions, autonomous public universities, the service sector of the government, and all other sectors are hugely corrupted by Awami supporters.

An interim government was formed, and Nobel laureate Dr Mohammad Yunus, the chief adviser of the government, We keep faith in him for reforming the whole administrative and ruling system of the country after the second independence. On September 11, the Chief Adviser of the Interim Government, Dr Muhammad Yunus, announced the formation of these six commissions in an address to the nation. The six commissions are: the Public Administration Reform Commission, the Police Reform Commission, the Election System Reform Commission, the Anti-Corruption Reform Commission, the Constitution Reform Commission, and the Judiciary Reform Commission.

Those 6 reformable sectors are the most fundamental institutions, which are the key factor for the democratic ruling system of the country. The Awami regime was distracted from the general people, they politicised those sectors for their ruling purpose and their autocratic leadership in a democratic country. The formation is needed because those institutions became institutions that serve the autocratic leader rather than serving the people of Bangladesh.

The public administrative sector becomes a corrupt and blind supporter of the Awami League. The admin cadre who was the supporter of the then-ruling party got the promotion, and it was the only reason why capabilities and honesty were ignored. They were very much corrupted and became the reason for other corruptions. It is responsible for all the bureaucratic complexity that is the mother of all the official complexity in terms of giving service to the people of Bangladesh.

The law enforcement agency served political purposes that helped the party dominate other people for their purposes, and the ultimate place of faith in the judiciary was also biased in that regime. The judiciary sector also serves the purpose of the government, which should be neutral and the ultimate safer institution of the people of Bangladesh. After the reformation, the judiciary will be free and neutral to serve and the settlement of the case without any political and personal pressure.

Police reform is mandatory before the election because the police are the most popular law enforcement agency, but the then government uses this to hold its power illegally. History says all political party tries to use this renowned force for their political purpose. Police reformation will ensure that this force will only be for the people of the country; they will serve the nation, not the political party.

Election system reform will ensure that the system of choosing the right person who will not be the ruler, but will be the servant, and facilitate their people after gaining the power. It also ensures that no political or fascist ruler can manipulate this system for their own purpose.

Anti-corruption reform will ensure the policy and rules are made for its legislative support and power. ACC will perform against corruption without any kind of fear or influence. It will act according to their policy and law. It acts like a neutral agency, it will be the source of fear for the corrupt officials and the corrupt businessmen of this country.

Constitution reform will ensure the proper distribution of power among the elected members. It will stop the channel from being fascist a ruler again. It also influences political reformation. The political party will change itself according to the constitution reform.

These are the most alarming sectors among a lot of concerning institutions.. All the reforms will be possible if the interim government reconstructs the institutions with the most capable and honest heads of those departments. The proper formation will be ensured by the appointed capable, honest, and politically unbiased person. When a dedicated administration is appointed, it can make necessary policies to serve the nation properly. The interim government has to touch all the possible sectors that are most corrupt. Suppressing corruption should be one of the main mottos of the interim government. It should be considered the advice of the most dynamic, specialist, and dedicated person to reform the entire sector. Ensuring the evaluation of the perfect person for the specific reformation of the country will be the most valuable step for the government.

This interim government has legitimacy because it gains power in exchange for almost 2 thousand martyrs who have sacrificed their lives against the fascist state function. Almost all the state institutions, like the judiciary, police, constitution, corruption, and the entire system of the state functions, are responsible for the genocide of July and August 2024. So the reformation is the priority, then the other step will be the free and fair election.
