Implementation of Padma Barrage will change  country's economic picture: Water Resources Minister

Water Resources Minister Md. Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie MP has commented that the implementation of the Padma Barrage project, a long-standing dream of the people of the southwestern and northern regions, will bring about major changes in the country's economy.
 
He said that the implementation of this project will create opportunities for agricultural revolution, power generation, fish farming, and crop production, in addition to the economic transformation of 24 districts.
 
He made these remarks while inspecting the site of the proposed Padma Barrage project in Habaspur, Pangsha Upazila, Rajbari at 11:30 am on Friday. 
 
Water Resources Minister Md. Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie MP said, "Padma Barrage is a mastermind project of Bangladesh. This barrage has been a long-standing dream. It was a long-standing dream of the people of the southwestern and northern regions, that is, about 70 million people in 24 districts of Bangladesh. We are here today to make that dream a reality."
 
He said, if the Padma Barrage Project is implemented, the country's image will change. This project is very important for the economic transformation and economic revolution of Bangladesh. Through the implementation of the project, the economic transformation of 24 districts will take place. At the same time, there will be a revolution in agriculture, creating opportunities for increasing power generation, fish farming and crop production.
 
The minister further said that this is a very modern technology-based project. The technical study of this project has been taken forward since the time of former Prime Minister late Begum Khaleda Zia in 2004. The ECNEC has been passed to implement the project in 2026.
 
He said that before the election, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had promised the people to implement the Padma Barrage and included the issue in the election manifesto. 
 
Regarding the inauguration of the Padma Barrage, the minister said, "Very soon, probably sometime in January, February or March next year, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will come to Habaspur, Pangsha, and inaugurate the Padma Barrage."
 
He said that through the implementation of these programs, including the Padma Barrage, long-standing dreams will be fulfilled and a new Bangladesh will be built.
 
 Prime Minister's Finance and Planning Advisor Dr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad, State Minister for Culture and Chairman of the Padma Barrage-Second Padma Bridge Implementation National Committee Ali Newaz Mahmud Khayyam, Rajbari-2 constituency MP Md. Harun Or Rashid, Rajbari District Council Administrator Abdus Salam Miah, officials of the concerned ministry, district BNP leaders, local political leaders and dignitaries were present.
