IGP, Sarjis offer Ziarat at Shaheed Abu Sayeed's grave

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Moynul Islam and the anti-discrimination student movement coordinator Md Sarjis Alam offered ziarat at Shaheed Abu Sayeed's grave in village Babanpur of Pirganj upazila in the district today.

After arriving in Babanpur village around 11:30am, the IGP with Sarjis Alam and high officials visited the grave of Shaheed Abu Sayeed and paid tributes to him by placing wreaths.

After offering Fateha and munajat seeking blessings for departed souls of Abu Sayeed and all other martyrs in the anti-discrimination student movement, the IGP talked to Abu Sayeed's parents and family members.

Rangpur Range DIG Md Aminul Islam, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Abdul Mazid, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Sharif Uddin, anti-discrimination student movement coordinators Rakib Hasan and Tariqul Islam and Officer-in-Charge of Pirganj police station MA Farooq were present.

Abu Sayeed's father Md Mokbul Hossain, his mother Monwara Begum, elder brothers Abu Hossain and Ramjan Ali sister Sumi Begum, relatives and hundreds of local people were present.

Abu Sayeed, a brilliant student of the Department of English of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur embraced martyrdom in police firing in the anti-discrimination student movement in Rangpur city on July 16 last.

After Sayed was killed, the anti-discrimination student movement instantly turned into the student-people mass upsurge across the country quickening the fall of the autocratic regime of the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5.
