Police arrested two counterfeit money traders with about 2.5 lakh fake taka and about taka 4 lakh in cash with a private car on Friday night.

The arrested persons are Md. Habibur Rahman (40), son of Hiru Sheikh of Haridaspur village of Gopalganj Sadar police station and main accused in the case of looting 11 crore taka by breaking Dutch Bangla Bank booth in Turag Police Station area and Ripon Sheikh Batu (37) son of Nowsher Ali Sheikh of Fakirkandi area of the same village.

OC of Gopalganj Sadar police station. Sajedur Rahman said that on Friday night, Md. Habibur Rahman and Ripon Sheikh Batu were arrested with fake money in front of Gopalganj Telecom and Sadar Hospital near the press club on Bangabandhu Road in Gopalganj city.

Later, when the police was informed, a team police led by Sadar Thanor sub-inspector Biplab Kumar Das arrested the two people from the spot.

At that time, the police also arrested Md. Habibur Rahman in front of Gopalganj Telecom, which is adjacent to the Press Club on Bangabandhu Road. Tk lakh 83 thousand in cash was recovered and a white colored private car was seized. Besides, 2,000 fake taka were recovered from Ripon Sheikh Batu.

The police officer said, Habibur Rahman is the main accused in the case of looting 11 crores taka by breaking the booth of Dutch Bangla Bank in Turag police station area in 2023.

Besides, there are several cases of robbery in the name of the arrested in Turag and Gopalganj Sadar Police Station.

A case was registered under section 25 A (B) of the Special Powers Act, 1974 at Gopalganj Sadar Police Station on Saturday afternoon. Case No-31, dated -26/10/2024
