A human chain was held demanding exemplary punishment and arrest of Md. Jahangir Alam, a petty leader of the Awami League, alleged to be a false case filer, fraudster, and perpetrator of relentless torture on innocent people in the Kornopur Sarkartari area under Ward No. 3 of Mogholhat Union No. 1 of Lalmonirhat.

The human chain was organized by the residents of the Mogholhat area of Lalmonirhat Sadar after Jumma prayers on Friday (April 25) on the road adjacent to the Sarkartari Jame Mosque in Kornopur, Mogholhat Union of Lalmonirhat.

Speakers at the human chain included General Secretary of Mogholhat Union Jubo Dal Forhad Hossain, President of Mogholhat Union BNP Abul Kashem Mondol Mojnu, former UP member of Mogholhat Union Abul Hossain, and Ward No. 3 UP member Jonab Ali, among others. Thousands of men and women from wards 1, 2, and 3 of Mogholhat Union—Kornopur, Sarkartari, Chowratari, Mondoltari, Gariyaltari, Purbo Byaparitari, Khanatari, Majhatari, and Katan Dighi—were present during the human chain.

Those present at the human chain demanded the withdrawal of false cases and a proper investigation of the actual incidents, along with exemplary punishment for the culprits.

Meanwhile, a written complaint was submitted to the Superintendent of Police of Lalmonirhat in connection with a complaint lodged with the Anti-Corruption Commission on 21/04/2025 by one Jahangir Alam.

The complaint was filed on behalf of the local residents by Mehedi Hasan on Wednesday. 

In the written complaint, Mehedi Hasan, on behalf of the residents, stated: “We are residents of Kornopur village under Ward No. 3 of Mogholhat Union in Sadar upazila. We are submitting this written complaint to inform that Md. Jahangir Alam, a participant in the public hearing of the Anti-Corruption Commission held on 21/04/2025, is a notorious false case filer and fraudster. Through deceit, he receives 75% of the land value from 4–5 buyers for the same property, without executing the registered deed (sale deed), and drives them out of their homes by filing false rape cases. Asking for either the registered land or a refund is out of the question; rather, the victims spend their lives running to the police station and courts just to be acquitted from false charges. This is how he ends any hope of the buyers getting either their land or money back.”

“Similarly, despite deeds of land previously sold by his father and grandfather, he claims ownership of the same and pressures the buyers to vacate. When local elders call for arbitration, he refuses to appear. He doesn't even file any legal land claim in court; instead, he uses false rape cases to forcefully evict people and grab land.”

“He had accepted his daughter's marriage and sent fish, milk, and fruits to his son-in-law’s house as blessings. He even dined at their home, then lured his daughter and son-in-law to his own house, tied them up with rope, beat them, and drove them out. A few days later, when the daughter fled back to her husband, Jahangir Alam filed a false case with the police. When the police came to rescue the girl, she threatened them with a knife, saying if touched, she would slit her own throat. The police left without rescuing her. Later, 4–5 hired goons broke into the house and took her away. Two days later, Jahangir disowned the son-in-law and filed a rape case against him.”

“In this way, he is spreading extreme unrest in the area by filing one false case after another, creating a reign of terror. Therefore, I earnestly request you to conduct an on-the-ground investigation to uncover the truth and take legal action against the accused to relieve us from his tyranny.”
