Health camp held in Boalkhali : Awareness, regular health check-ups essential to prevent cancer : Divisional Health Director

Chittagong Divisional Health Director Dr. Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said, cancer has now become an epidemic. A large proportion of those who die from non-communicable diseases in Bangladesh are dying of cancer. Raising public awareness and regular health check-ups are very important in preventing cancer.
He made these remarks after inaugurating an eye and health camp organized by the Lions Club of Chittagong Alex and in collaboration with the Saira-Zahir Foundation at Yunus Saheb's house in Sreepur Munshipara, Boalkhali Upazila on Saturday morning.
Dr. Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said that about 20,000 people die of cancer in the district every year. A significant portion of them are women. The incidence of uterine, breast and ovarian cancer is higher among women. On the other hand, lung cancer is increasing among men. The risk of oral cavity cancer is also increasing due to the consumption of various tobacco products including betel, zarda.
The chief guest of the program was Lion Md. Kamruzzaman Liton PMJF, District Governor of Lions International District 315-B4 Bangladesh. The special guests were the 1st Vice District Governor of the district, Lion Md. Abu Bakr Siddique PMJF, 2nd Vice District Governor Lion Parveen Mahmud FCA PMJF, PDG and Club Guardian Lion Sheikh Shamsuddin Ahmed Siddique PMJF, PDG Lion Kohinoor Kamal and others concerned. The program was presided over by Lion Mohammad Yunus and President of Saira-Zahir Foundation Mohammad Musa. The moderators were Lion Mohammad Azad Moinuddin and Lion Mohammad Yunus.
Sewing machines, wheelchairs, crutches, mosquito nets, medicines and glasses were distributed among the helpless people in the health camp. Dry food was provided to four orphanages. In addition, tree plantation and tree saplings were distributed. Awareness seminars on dengue, measles and childhood cancer were also organized.
