The hanging body of a housewife named Shamima Khatun (24) was recovered in Shyamnagar Upazila of Satkhira on Saturday evening.
She was found hanging from a beam inside her father's house in Kachrahati village of the upazila sadar. Shamima, who was seven months pregnant, was the wife of Biplob Hossain from Kaikhali village in Shyamnagar. Five days ago, she had come to visit her parental home with her husband. Upon receiving the news, police from Shyamnagar police station visited the scene. The victim’s brother and relatives stated that in the afternoon, her brother-in-law went outside the house.
Taking advantage of no one being home in the evening, she hanged herself in the bedroom from a beam. After her body was taken down and brought to Shyamnagar Upazila Health Complex, the on-duty doctor declared her dead. The victim’s family has requested the police station not to conduct a post-mortem. Shamima’s husband, Biplob, said that she was undergoing treatment for a mental illness. He claimed that in the afternoon, she was forcefully sent outside the house, which led to this tragic act.
OC of Shyamnagar Police Station, Md. Humayun Kabir Molya, said, after completing legal procedures, the body will be handed over to the family.
