Khaja murder : Case filed against 36 people in Narail

Uzzal Ray,  Narail

A case has been filed at Lohagara Police Station accusing Union BNP leader Palash Sheikh as the prime suspect in the murder of Khaja Molla (40), a young man killed due to previous enmity in Lohagara, Narail. The case was filed on Saturday morning by the victim's brother, Ali Haider Molla.

The case names a total of 36 accused, including Palash Sheikh, President of the Itna Union BNP and a former Union Parishad member.

Confirming the matter, Lohagara Police Station OC Md. Shariful Islam said,   36 people have been named in the Khaja Molla murder case.

Following the incident, two individuals—Sheikh Niamul Islam and Hossain Sheikh—were arrested on the same day from Gopalganj. They are named as the 17th and 27th accused in the case. Police operations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.

A conflict over local dominance had been ongoing between Shahadul Sheikh, member of Ward No. 4 of Itna Union, and former UP member and BNP leader Palash Sheikh. After a shift in political positions, supporters of Shahadul Member accused Palash Sheikh’s men of land grabbing, cutting down trees, and forcibly harvesting crops over several incidents.

On the morning of Wednesday (May 14), Khaja Molla, a supporter of Shahadul Member, was brutally attacked with sharp weapons at Kumordanga Bazaar by members of the rival group. Locals rescued him and took him to Lohagara Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead. Currently, police have been deployed in the area.
