Minister for Posts, Telecommunications, Information Technology, and Science and Technology Faqir Mahbub Anam announced on Tuesday that the government has set a target to create one million jobs in the digital sector over the next five years to establish Bangladesh as a regional hub for information technology and artificial intelligence (AI).

The minister made the remarks as the chief guest at the "Bangladesh TechConnect 2026" conference, jointly organized by the Posts and Telecommunications Division and Huawei at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in the capital on Tuesday.

Highlighting the administration's "Bangladesh First" vision under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the minister emphasized the urgency of expanding reliable, high-speed, and affordable digital connectivity nationwide by modernizing telecommunications infrastructure, nurturing domestic innovation, and boosting digital skill development. 

Presiding as special guests, Posts and Telecommunications Division Secretary Dr. Md. Kamruzzaman, NDC, and Information and Communication Technology Division Secretary Md. Mamunur Rashid Bhuiyan outlined key policy directions. Secretary Bhuiyan revealed that the government has identified five strategic priorities—legal frameworks, connectivity, digital public infrastructure, AI/cybersecurity, and domestic production.

Addressing the forum, Huawei South Asia President Jason Wu reaffirmed Huawei’s commitment to expanding local digital infrastructure, cloud services, and AI integration to enhance industrial efficiency across Bangladesh.

The conference featured a keynote paper presented by Posts and Telecommunications Division Joint Secretary Sayeda Afroz, along with  three panel sessions focusing on 5G commercialization, cloud-based automation, enterprise readiness, and AI applications in banking, healthcare, ports, and manufacturing.
