Govt committed to expanding cashew, coffee cultivation, ensuring modern education in CHT : Saching Prue

The government is determined to promote sustainable tourism, expand cashew nut and coffee cultivation, and introduce modern e-learning facilities for students across the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) region, ministers announced on Tuesday.
The policy commitments were emphasized during an Annual Development Programme (ADP) review meeting held at the CHT Complex on Bailey Road in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Ministry Secretary Mohammad Mijanur Rahman presided over the session, which was attended by CHT Affairs Minister Saching Prue, MP, as the chief guest and State Minister Barrister Mir Md. Helal Uddin, MP, as the special guest.
Officials reviewed the progress of ADP projects for the 2026-2027 fiscal year, noting an allocated total budget of Tk 964.64 crore combining government and development partner support.
Highlighting agricultural and infrastructure modernization, CHT Affairs Minister Saching Prue underscored that long-term coffee and cashew nut farming across hill acres yields substantial economic returns over decades.
State Minister Barrister Mir Md. Helal Uddin prioritized educational advancement, urging widespread implementation of e-learning to help CHT students compete nationally.
Chairman of the CHT Development Board Major General (retd) Anup Kumar Chakma, Bandarbans District Council Chairman Ma Mya Ching, Rangamati District Council Chairman Dipan Talukder, and Khagrachhari District Council Chairman Mra Sa Hwai Marma were present alongside senior ministry officials.
