Coast Guard rescued 13 stranded fishermen in deep sea at St.Martin

The Bangladesh Coast Guard has rescued 13 fishermen alive alongside their disabled fishing boat stranded in the deep sea south of Saint Martin's Island.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon said this in a press release on Tuesday noon.
According to Coast Guard sources, the fishing vessel named FV Rifat departed Teknaf for the Bay of Bengal on September 25, 2026, with 13 fishermen on board. The vessel suffered an engine breakdown around 4:00 PM on September 28 while returning toward the harbor with harvested fish, leaving it drifting helpless in the deep sea south of Saint Martin's Island.
One of the stranded fishermen placed a distress call to the Coast Guard national emergency helpline number 16111, prompting immediate action.
Responding to the SOS call, the patrol vessel BCGS Syed Nazrul deployed a search and rescue team and intercepted the disabled boat 12 nautical miles south of Saint Martin's Island.
All 13 fishermen were safely rescued, provided with primary medical assistance and food, and efforts are underway to hand over the crew and vessel to the boat's owner.
The Coast Guard reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining continuous surveillance and emergency maritime rescue operations across the Bay of Bengal, the press added.
