Four business firms fined in Ctg

The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) imposed fines total Tk 62,000 on four Chattogram-based establishments on Monday for food safety violations, including relabeling expired biscuits with new dates.
This enforcement operation took place in the city’s Middle Halishahar area, led by DNCRP Assistant Director Nasrin Akhtar.
According to Akhtar, New Model Food Bakery received a fine of BDT 40,000 for selling biscuits with expired dates under newly applied stickers, as well as for producing food under unsanitary conditions, with mold found on some packaged bread. A pharmacy was fined BDT 10,000 for pricing violations and for selling expired medicines, while Café Ammu Jan faced an BDT 8,000 fine due to expired yogurt, storage of stale food, and maintaining poor hygiene in food preparation areas. Another business was fined BDT 4,000 for failing to display proper pricing, inadequate sales recordkeeping, and selling expired goods.
Assistant Directors Md. Anisur Rahman and Rana Debnath, who were also present during the operation, emphasized that the DNCRP will continue to monitor food safety and consumer rights adherence across the region.
