Hours after BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul’s comments on the government’s neutrality, Adviser Md Nahid Islam, said the party is hinting about the introduction of another 1/11-like government in the country.
“BNP secretary general’s demand indicates the formation of another 1/11 government from where fascism was introduced in the country,” Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Adviser Md Nahid Islam said on Thursday.
Earlier in the day, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, while addressing a programme at the National Press Club in Dhaka, said that the interim government is not able enough to maintain neutrality in some certain cases.
“If the interim government fails to remain neutral, a neutral administration will be necessary during the elections,” Fakhrul said.
Responding to the remark, Nahid came down hard on the BNP leader and said such a remark is an indication of a government with a majority in the parliament, submissive foreign policy and impunity of those involved in the abduction, killing and July-August massacre.
Nahid in his verified Facebook page wrote that the efforts began on 5 August to minus the leadership of the July-August mass upsurge.
“On one hand, students and common people were sacrificing their lives in front of bullets on the streets, while on the other, a group of national leaders were holding a meeting in the cantonment to form a new government,” said the veteran student leader.
He said the agitating students were determined not to accept army-led administration or emergency in the country till 3 August.
“We were repeatedly invited to meet at the cantonment, but we rejected the call. Finally, we held a meeting at Bangabhaban and decided to form a new government headed by Prof Yunus,” he said.
“We wanted to form a national government in connivance with anti-fascist political parties and several citizen platforms but BNP did not agree to the proposal considering that the national government will last for a long time. If the national government was formed, we might not have needed to come to be a part of the interim government,” he said.
