
DURS holds rreshers’ reception

The Dhaka University Research Society (DURS) welcomed its new members with a fresher’s reception held on Tuesday at the auditorium of the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC), University of Dhaka.
The event was graced by Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) of Dhaka University, who attended as the chief guest.
DURS President Fahim Hasan Mahdi presided over the ceremony. Among the special guests were Professor Dr. Md. Monzurul Karim, Moderator of DURS and faculty member of the Department of Microbiology; Taniyel Bedia Taisi, Country Director of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES); Kazi Samio Shish, Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Advanced Research in Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Dhaka; Saifullah Sadek, Founding President of DURS; and Umama Fatema, Spokesperson of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
Shahriar Nazim Shimanto, General Secretary of DURS, delivered the vote of thanks.
In his speech, Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed emphasized the need to strengthen academic and research activities in order to improve Dhaka University's position in international rankings. He stressed the importance of overcoming current limitations and building a conducive environment for research. Highlighting the necessity of a vibrant research culture, he encouraged students to get involved in research activities from the undergraduate level, challenging the conventional belief that research is solely the domain of teachers and scholars.
