Dhaka University will observe Mourning Day on Thursday ( October 15).  A total of 40 people were killed in the tragic accident that took place at Jagannath Hall on the night of October 15, 1985.
 
 Among the dead were 26 students and 14 guests and staff. Many were injured in the incident. This day is observed every year to pay tribute to the memory of the deceased students, staff and guests. On this occasion, the university will be closed on October 15.

The various programs of the mourning day include - hoisting of black flags at the main building, all halls and hostels of the university at 6 am, keeping the university flag at half-mast and wearing black badges; at 7:30 am, a condolence rally led by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam will proceed to the Jagannath Hall Memorial from the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla, laying wreaths and observing silence; discussion meeting at the TV room of October Memorial Bhavan at 8 am; prayer meeting of Hindus, Buddhists and Christians in the Jagannath Hall premises from 9 am to 10 am and after Asr, prayers will be offered in all hall mosques including Masjidul Jamia, the central mosque of the university, for the peace of the souls of the deceased.
 
 In addition, oil paintings of the deceased and informational materials will be displayed from 10 am to 6 pm under the management of the hall administration.
