Speculation is mounting across Gazipur Sadar Upazila ahead of the upcoming local government elections. From tea stalls to local markets, neighborhoods, and institutions, the name of Alhaz Abu Taher Musalli—a respected local figure from Vowal Mirzapur—is circulating as the single preferred candidate from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) for the post of Upazila Chairman.

Speaking to this correspondent, Abu Taher Musalli said, "I have always stood by the poor, working-class, and underprivileged people, and I will continue to do so. The people are my inspiration and my strength. If the people desire, I will contest the upcoming Upazila Parishad election for the post of Chairman, Insha'Allah."

A seasoned politician who rose from the grassroots, Musalli joined the BNP in the 1980s. He served as the President of the Mirzapur Union Juba Dal in 1983, Vice-President of Gazipur Sadar Upazila Juba Dal in 1987, President of Mirzapur Union Juba Dal again in 1991, and Social Welfare Secretary of Gazipur Sadar Upazila BNP in 1993. He was later appointed Convener of Gazipur Sadar Upazila BNP in 2015 and served as its President in 2017. Additionally, he previously served as a successful Vice-Chairman of Gazipur Sadar Upazila Parishad.

Currently serving as the Convener of Gazipur Sadar Upazila BNP, Musalli is widely regarded across political and social organizations as a leader free from internal party grouping.

Regarding the upcoming polls, he said , "I am not concerned about personal candidacies right now. I believe whoever receives the party nomination will contest the election. If elected, I will not work for my personal gain—I aim to present myself as a candidate dedicated entirely to public service." He added that his primary goal remains improving the lives of ordinary citizens by following the political vision and 31-point agenda of late President Ziaur Rahman and BNP
