
DU launches two-day seminar on Spanish Language Situation in China

A two-day seminar titled 'The Spanish Language Situation in China ' jointly organized by Dhaka University and the Embassy of Spain in Dhaka, has started at the Institute of Modern Languages on Tuesday.
Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan inaugurated the seminar as the chief guest at a function held at the institute auditorium. Spanish Ambassador to Bangladesh Mr. Gabriel Maria Sistiaga Ochoa de Chinchetru was present as the guest of honor at the function.
The inaugural function was presided over by Professor Mohammad Absar Kamal, Director of the Institute of Modern Languages, and Professor Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha, Inditex Chair in Spanish Language and Culture Professor Santiago Fernandez Mosquera, and Professor Jingsheng Lu of SISU University of Shanghai, China, spoke as special guests. Visiting Professor of Spain Ms. Maria Amparo Porta Rivas and senior officials of the Spanish Embassy in Dhaka and the Chinese Embassy were present.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan said that the university administration is working very sincerely to develop education and research at Dhaka University. For this purpose, joint cooperative and partnership education and research activities are being undertaken with various domestic and foreign educational institutions and organizations and the ongoing activities are being expanded. Emphasizing the importance of mutual exchange of knowledge and experience between teachers and researchers of Dhaka University and various universities in Spain, he said that such seminars will further strengthen the friendly relations between the two countries.
It is mentioned that at the opening ceremony of the seminar, Prof. Alica Relinque Eleta, Professor of the University of Granada, and Isabel Cervera, Director of the Cervantes Institute in China, presented two separate papers.
