
DU holds scientific seminar : Guardians, students suffering from mental health problems due to July Mass Uprising

Graduate and postgraduate students in the country are suffering from mental health problems due to the July Mass Uprising.
A scientific seminar titled Addressing Psychological Problems among Undergraduate and Post-graduate students after July-August movement in Bangladesh was held at Sirajul Islam Lecture Hall on Saturday at the joint initiative of the Center for Research in Multidisciplinary (CRM), Dhaka University Research Society (DURS) and the Center for Psychological Health (CPH). Pro-Vice Chancellor (Edn) of Dhaka University, Prof Dr. Mamun Ahmed was present as the chief guest at the event.
Prof Dr., Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology, Dhaka University Mehzabeen Haque chaired the seminar and it was attended by Nazmul Hossain, Director of the UK Centre for Psychological Health, Syed Tanvir Rahman, Associate Prof of the Department of Psychology, Dhaka University, Dr. SM Abul Kalam Azad, Associate Professor of the Department of Clinical Psychology, BSMMU, Dr. Selina Fatema Binte Shaheed, Assistant Professor of the Department of Psychiatry, BSMMU, Md. Omar Faruk, Director of the Psychology and Research Academy, and Umama Fatema, spokesperson of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. Sadia Sharmin Urmi, a psychologist living in Canada, and Mahdi-ul-Morshed, founder of CRM, presented keynote speeches. Nishita Zaman Niha, Secretary of the Innovation and Development Wing of the Dhaka University Research Council, gave the welcome address.
Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr. Mamun Ahmed sincerely thanked the researchers for the timely research and said that currently, there is unrest everywhere in society, including individuals and families. Seeing the scenes of blood and casualties before our eyes during the anti-discrimination student movement and the July mass uprising, people's mental stress and unrest have increased. A kind of trauma is working among people. The Dhaka University administration has taken various initiatives to overcome this trauma of the students.
The main article of the seminar stated that undergraduate and postgraduate students of the country are suffering from mental health problems due to the anti-discrimination student movement and the July mass uprising. Students who participated in the movement for at least 5 days are in a kind of mental trauma. The research report was prepared by collecting data from 375 students aged 17-18 in Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet and Rajshahi regions.
