DNA matches accused to Rangpur quadruple murder scene

Rangpur Bureau

Forensic analysis has confirmed a DNA match between two accused individuals and several key pieces of evidence recovered from the scene of the Rangpur quadruple murder, police confirmed on Thursday.

The suspects, Siddhartha Das and Mugdho Das, were taken from Rangpur Jail to the CID headquarters in Dhaka on September 21 for DNA testing. According to Sumit Chowdhury, Superintendent of Police (CID, Rangpur), their DNA matched biological samples found on a bitten date, a date pit, a cucumber, and cigarette remnants collected from the crime scene.

Investigators revealed that after strangling retired Rangpur Zilla School teacher Ganapati Chakraborty, his wife Pritilata Chakraborty, daughter Agami Chakraborty, and son Priyam Chakraborty on August 22, the killers remained in the house in the city's Masua Para area. They bathed, consumed dates and cucumbers from the refrigerator, smoked, and ransacked the house for cash and gold ornaments.

Police previously suspected the murders stemmed from a dispute over the suspects consuming Yaba on the roof of Ganapati’s house. Both suspects have already given judicial confessions under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

The DNA findings provide a critical scientific link connecting Siddhartha and Mugdho directly to the crime scene, further bolstering the case alongside confessions, autopsy results, and recovered looted goods.
