Disruption of public movement by cutting Govt road in Muksudpur alleged

A miscreant named Rahat Sheikh has disrupted public movement by illegally cutting a government road in the Paschim Para area of Daserhat village under Muksudpur upazila in Gopalganj district.
According to local sources, in the fiscal year 2012–13, under the Local Government Support Project (LGSP) with an allocation of 60,000 taka by the Muksudpur Upazila Engineer’s Office, a 250–300 feet road was constructed from Daserhat Paschim Para–Danga Durgapur Road to Daserhat Temple over land belonging to the late Shukur Ali Khan. This road served as a vital passage for over a hundred residents from several families. It has since been repaired several times with government funding and is in regular use by the public.
However, on Saturday, May 16, 2025, without any governmental approval, Rahat Sheikh—son of Ashraf Sheikh of Danga Durgapur village—illegally cut several parts of the road. He also felled around 10–12 mahogany trees planted along the road, severely hampering public movement.
Masudur Rahman Molla, son of Omar Ali Molla from Daserhat village, told reporters, "Every day, many families including ours rely on this road for commuting. Rahat Sheikh destroyed it yesterday afternoon, and now people are suffering."
When contacted, Marufa Khan, daughter of the landowner late Shukur Ali Khan, said, “My father donated this land for public passage. No one from our family gave permission to cut this road. What has been done is a grave injustice.”
Similarly, Ayub Ali Sheikh, brother-in-law of late Shukur Ali Khan and resident of nearby Danga Durgapur, stated, “We were not informed about the road being cut. We’ve heard that it was done by Rahat Sheikh. It is completely illegal.”
Speaking about the incident, Milan Laskar, member of Ward 3 of the concerned Gobindapur Union Parishad, said, “No one has the right to damage a road built with government funds. What has been done is highly unlawful.”
The local community is now demanding urgent legal action from the administration against the vandal Rahat Sheikh, who is involved in the destruction of the public infrastructure.
