
Demand for self-employment, rights of disabled people in Gaibandha

Gaibandha Sadar Upazila committees of the Deaf and Speech-Impaired Welfare Association and the National Deaf Unity Council organized a sit-in and submitted a memorandum demanding self-employment opportunities and fundamental rights for the disabled on Wednesday.
The program took place in front of Ganasas Market on DB Road, Gaibandha. After the sit-in, over a hundred disabled people marched to the Deputy Commissioner’s office to submit their memorandum.
Speakers, including President Md. Idris Ali and General Secretary Md. Abdur Rafiq Mia, demanded the allocation of government land for a dedicated office, financial assistance and housing for homeless and poor disabled members, full social security, legal aid for affected members, distribution of relief and VGF cards, local transport facilities with half fare, and interest-free small loans from Titas Bank for handicraft initiatives.
They also stated that a 15-point memorandum would be submitted to the chief advisor in Dhaka for implementation.
