A day-long international seminar on Development and Governance Experiences in China and Bangladesh was held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University (DU) on Monday.

DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A S M Maksud Kamal presided over the inaugural session while Chinese Ambassador in Bangladesh Mr. Yao Wen addressed it as special guest. The Centre for China Studies of Dhaka University and the Centre for China Studies of Shanghai Institutes for International Studies jointly organized this event.

President of Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) Prof. Dr. Chen Dongxiao, UNESCO Country Representative Dr. Susan Vize, FAO Country Representative Dr. Shi Jiaoqun and UNDP Resident Representative Stefan Liller delivered key-note speeches at the inaugural session.

Besides, Vice-Chancellor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Prof. Farid Uddin Ahmed presided over the special report session while Prof. Dr. Yao Yang of Peking University presented paper on China’s economic situation. Vice-Chancellor of Noakhali Science and Technology University Prof. Dr. Md. Didar-ul-Alam, Vice President of East China Normal University Prof. Dr. Gu Hongliang and Vice President of Yunnan University Prof. Dr. Hu Jinming also spoke.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A S M Maksud Kamal stressed the need for undertaking joint collaborative academic and research activities, sharing knowledge and exchanging information among regional and international experts to resolve social problems as well as establish peace and harmony in the world. The Centre for China Studies of Dhaka University will create a common platform for people of the two friendly countries to uphold values and knowledge, he hoped.

Chinese Ambassador Mr. Yao Wen said China and Bangladesh are working together to maintain social stability, develop socio-economic condition and modernize the two countries.

He emphasized on enhancing cooperation and dialogue in the fields of education and research among scholars of the two friendly countries. Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh will provide all possible support and cooperation in this regard, he said.
