Ctg DC assures : No market instability in Ramadan

Md. Tanzim Hossain, Chattogram City

Chattogram Deputy Commissioner (DC) Farida Khanam has assured that strict monitoring will be in place to maintain price stability and ensure an uninterrupted supply of essential commodities ahead of Ramadan. She made this statement during a discussion with business leaders and government officials.

The DC emphasized the importance of enabling low- and middle-income people to shop comfortably during Ramadan. She also mentioned that, if necessary, meetings would be held with mill owners to regulate soybean oil prices, while the district administration would continue regular market inspections.

Business leaders and officials assured the DC that the prices of essential goods would remain stable throughout Ramadan, and all necessary measures had been taken. They also pledged their full cooperation in maintaining market stability.

Officials reported that vegetable production and supply are normal. Senior District Agricultural Marketing Officer Shahriar Akunji stated that a strong Rabi season harvest has ensured sufficient stocks, eliminating any risk of shortages. Assistant Director of the Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection Md. Anisur Rahman confirmed that the supply of chickpeas is also stable.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Kamruzzaman, District Fisheries Officer Sribas Chandra Chand, Upazila Food Controller (Technical) Md. Fakhrul Alam, and representatives from business associations and government departments.
